What you'll need:

  • Citizenship: you are a citizen of one of our 48 member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
  • Education: master's degree or equivalent in economics or related fields.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience as a research assistant for quantitative studies and impact evaluations. Experience working in developing countries (preferable).
  • Languages: excellent command of Spanish and English (written and spoken)

General and technical skills:

General:

  • Motivation and orientation towards results and ability to work as a team.
  • Willingness to learn, attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks.

Technical:

  • Excellent handling of word processors (Word) and spreadsheets (Excel)
  • Excellent handling of econometric software (Stata -preferable- or R).
  • Knowledge of experimental and non-experimental methods for impact assessments.
  • Writing skills and ability to review and summarize academic literature.
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative analysis skills (using data to produce analysis).
  • Management of geographic information systems (GIS) (preferable)
  • Knowledge of Python programming language (preferable)
  • Knowledge and research experience on issues of domestic violence and/or crime economics (preferable)

Service Considerations:

The work described in these terms of reference will be done in a coordinated manner with the IDB team. This coordination will require regular follow-up meetings or calls. The files, databases and documents used during the conduct of the studies will be stored on servers shared with the research team during the conduct of the studies.

All information collected and used during the consultancy shall be considered confidential and used solely for the purposes of the works described in these terms of reference.

Opportunity Summary:

  • Type of contract and modality: Consultant of External Products and Services (PEC) Lump Sum.
  • Duration of the contract: 6 months.
  • Location: Residence of the consultant.
  • Responsible person: Santiago Pérez Vincent, Specialist in Economics of the Citizen Security and Justice team (santiagoper@iadb.org).
  • Requirements: You must be a citizen of one of the IDB's 48 member countries and not have family members currently working in the IDB Group.
