What you'll need

Education: You hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.  

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in media relations, press coordination, or a related role, with preference for formal PR training/background. 

  • Experience in building a strategic media relations plan and implement multiple media outreach strategies simultaneously. 
  • Knowledge of the news cycle, and traditional and online media outlets. 
  • Proven ability to understand complex research and synthesize it into clear and concise oral and written communications, including for social media. 
  • Proven experience leading teams and coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and providing feedback on the work of others (with formal and informal reporting line). 
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor employees and nurture effective work relations. 
  • Established relationships with international media personnel in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Washington, DC. Relationships with development journalists a plus.
  • Proven proficiency in both English and Spanish with a portfolio that showcases press releases or media communications in both languages. 
  • Familiarity with multilateral development institutions or similar organizations is an advantage.

Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents. 
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab. 

Type of contract and duration

  • International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
