Occupational Health Nurse / Nurse Clinician Consultant

Background of this search: The Human Resources Department (HRD) is responsible for the administration and development of the human resources in the IDB Group. It also oversees the implementation of the Human Capital Strategy, building and implementing programs and methodologies in direct support of our results-based business model and focusing on the development of the Bank’s talent and technical skills capacity.

The Human Resources Department is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed registered nurse to join the Health Services Center team, within the Compensation, Benefits, and HR Services Division (HRD/COB) in HRD. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience within the field of occupational health and be able to work autonomously.


The team’s mission: The Compensation, Benefits, and HR Services Division (HRD/COB) analyzes, designs, and administers compensation, payroll, and benefits programs for international and national staff assigned to Headquarters and the Country Offices. The organization’s Human Resources Services Center, responsible for the administration of key benefits program, also reports to this Division.

What you’ll do:
  • Clinical acute nursing care and management of occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries through assessment, monitoring, interpretation, and follow-up of patient's condition, and referral of the patient to a physician, hospital, urgent care or corresponding healthcare facility/provider for comprehensive treatment and follow-up.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care, as needed. Weekly maintenance of emergency kit and equipment (AED, oxygen tank, blood pressure equipment).
  • Administration of medications and treatments recommended and prescribed by the Bank's Medical Consultant/Advisor or by the employee’s private physician through telephone/written orders (e.g., medicine/standing orders, allergy injections, vaccines, etc.).
  • Health/Wellness education and counseling. Referral to Bank’s Employee Assistance Program or behavioral specialist for psychological counseling.
  • Implement Medical Examinations (including Periodical and Transfer Medical Exams) by preparing lab requests, executing blood extractions and collection of urine/hemoccult samples for laboratory tests, performing and evaluating electrocardiograms/vision screening, and collaborating with the attending physician in carrying out physical examinations. Review medical recommendations with patient and provide copy of medical examination. Performs follow-up as needed.
  • Assist with reviewing medical exams completed outside of the Health Services Center. Uploads documents to electronic medical record for medical review. Notifies employee completion of medical review and medical recommendations.
  • Implement the Travel Medicine Program by providing the traveler with health maintenance and disease prevention information, and medicines/vaccinations required.
  • Prepare treatment and rest/recovery room for patient examinations, to include cleaning and restocking.
  • Collaborate with planning and implementation of the Preventive Medicine/Wellness Programs.
  • Implement ergonomic evaluations. Follows IDB specific protocols when implementing onsite and remotely ergonomics workstation evaluations. Accurately articulate ergonomics recommendations and other matter expertise verbally and in writing. Provide referral of the patient to a physician for comprehensive treatment and follow up. Provide timely recommendation reports to mitigate risk factors; propose and provide ergonomic services that can assist clients with mitigating risk factors.
  • Maintain medical chart/electronic medical records for every employee where pertinent medical data is registered, and medical reports are stored.
  • Carry-out any other tasks or activities as required by the Chief Nurse or nurse in charge in order to accomplish Health Services Center goals. 

What you’ll need:
  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
  • Education: Graduate from a Nursing accredited school (BSN); current RN license in Washington, D.C.; BLS for Healthcare Provider.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 year of experience in Occupational Health or related area such as public health/community health, internal medicine, emergency/critical care, or outpatient setting. Minimum of 3 years RN experience preferred. Recent Clinical experience required, 12 months or greater.
    • Liability: The Registered Nurse shall protect, defend, indemnify, and hold the Bank harmless from and against any costs, expenses, fees (including attorney’s fees), liabilities or damages the Bank, its officers, agents or employees may incur as a result of any claims, actions, suits originating in or resulting from any acts or omissions by the Registered Nurse in the performance of the services under this Agreement.
    • Insurance: The Registered Nurse shall be responsible for maintaining all life, health, accident, disability, Workmen's Compensation (if required by law), employer's liability, general liability (policy to be issued on a per occurrence basis, including coverage for death, bodily injury, personal injury and property damage, with limits of $1,000,000 per occurrence), Nurse's Professional Liability (policy to be issued on a per occurrence basis with limits as follows: professional liability, $1,000,000 each medical incident and a $2,000,000 aggregate; personal injury, $1,000,000 per occurrence with a $2,000,000 aggregate) and any other insurance related to the services provided. If the Professional Liability insurance policy also provides general liability coverage in the amounts stipulated herein above, the Registered Nurse shall not be required to obtain separate coverage under a General Liability insurance policy. The Registered Nurse shall provide the Bank with a Certificate(s) of Insurance evidencing the Required General liability and Professional Liability coverage.
    • Professional License: The Registered Nurse shall provide a copy of his/her license or other acceptable verification of the existence of such license to the Bank upon execution of this Agreement and, if so, requested by the Bank, at any time thereafter during the term of this Agreement.
  • Languages: Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish required; knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.
