Multilateral Affairs Coordination Specialist


Background: Do you have a validated expertise in one or more of the following areas: institutional relationships and engagement with multilateral development banks (MDBs), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), key global governance fora such as the G7 and G20, and corporate strategy?         

In this role we have open you will provide advice and strategic guidance on multilateral, regional and global development affairs, particularly in those areas where MDBs are expected to unlock and leverage development flows through coordination, collaboration and cooperation mechanisms.


Likewise, you will help translate the advantages of membership in these mechanisms and global fora into better corporate performance. You will contribute to ensure our strategic priorities are aligned with the global agenda and duly incorporated in the corporate planning. You will also share the outcomes of global fora to all member countries of the IDB, including those who are not part of such fora. 


The team: The Strategy and Planning Division (SPD) is responsible for evidence-based monitoring of, and reporting on our corporate performance. To this end, SPD serves as the Bank’s focal point with:   

(i) other development partners on corporate strategy and development effectiveness, particularly Multilateral Development Banks (MDB), contributing to joint strategic initiatives, such as the recent work on Financing for Development, the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, and the joint work on measuring private sector investment mobilization and blended finance;

(ii) high-level global governance fora such as the G20, particularly the work streams where MDBs participate, such as the Development Working Group (DWG), the International Financial Architecture Working Group (IFA-WG) and the Infrastructure Working Group (IWG);

(iii) MDBs' strategic coordination, collaboration and cooperation mechanisms among them and with IMF, such as the Regional Development Banks (RDB) Heads Group and the wider MDBs-IMF Heads Group;

(iv) external assessments to MDBs by International Organizations (IOs) such as the OECD and the Multilateral Organization Performance Assessment Network (MOPAN); and

(v) coordination and cooperation fora such as the MDB Forum on Corporate Strategy and Policy, the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC), and the Summit of the Americas.

What you’ll do:


  1. Contribute to assess the alignment of IDB’s strategic priorities (as reflected in the Institutional Strategy, the Corporate Results Framework and the Guidelines for Country Strategies) with the international development and financial agendas.
  2. Be part of the conceptualization and development of new corporate initiatives related to our strategic position in multilateral mechanisms and global development fora.
  3. Review and monitor the implementation of G7/G20 and MDBs/RDBs working groups including but not limited to: (i) Economic Migration and Forced Displacement, (ii) Blended Concessional Finance, (iii) Value-for-Money and (iv) Mobilization. Participate in the discussions, collect inputs from relevant areas and provide strategic orientation to reflect the position of the IDBG.
  4. Follow OECD and DAC dialogue on mobilization, blended finance, total official support for sustainable development (TOSSD) and GPEDC.
  5.  Draft high-level notes, executive briefings, talking points, speeches and position papers for the IDB President and Executive Vice-president on the topics mentioned above, for their interventions in global and regional fora at Leaders’ level. Provide inputs and advise to the content of SPD presentations and technical briefings for the Board Executive Directors, Board of Governors, and for the Steering Committee on all matters related to IDB engagement in multi-lateral financial and development mechanisms.
  6.  Provide support to the General Manager of SPD as needed.

What you’ll need:

  • Education: You hold a masters’ degree in public policy, international affairs, economics or relevant field in International Development

  • Experience: You have at least 6 years of relevant professional experience in international financial institutions and/or international business units within an organization. Government experience also highly desirable

  • Languages: You are fluent (written and verbal) in both English and Spanish. Your knowledge in other foreign languages is desirable.
