What you will need:

Education

An advanced university degree in conference interpretation or a related field.

Languages: Native command of English and Spanish with a strong working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese.

Experience

Professional experience as a conference interpreter in an international setting, ideally with multilateral organizations (at least 10 years).

Proven track record planning, organizing, and managing interpretation services, including personnel, budget, and/or project management experience.

Competencies/Skills

Superior simultaneous interpreting skills (working into English and Spanish from at least three of the  four official languages (English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese). Short-listed candidates will be required to take a simultaneous interpretation test. Candidates who have previously taken the IDB test and passed may be exempt from this requirement

Substantive understanding of international affairs and particularly of LAC socioeconomic, political, and cultural contexts; demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of subjects dealt with by the IDB Group and the corresponding terminology, i.e., development, finance, economics, energy, agriculture, urban development, digitalization, etc.

In-depth knowledge of institutional policies and procedures, as well as familiarity with other organizations’ policies and business practices regarding the recruitment, staffing, and remuneration of interpreters.

In-depth knowledge of the Washington D.C. and regional freelance markets.

Ability to run a one-stop-shop operation, meeting institutional needs while enabling high-quality interpretation services.

Decisiveness and good judgement.

Sound interpersonal skills, leadership, and team-building abilities.

  • Manage paradoxes, remaining energized and focused, even when faced with conflicting interests between own expectations and organizational demands and pressures. Executing leadership decisions in the face of adversity and ambiguity.
