What you’ll need:

  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab
  • Education: Master’s degree in anthropology, sociology, environmental management, law, communication, environmental sciences or relevant field.
  • Experience: 10 years minimum of relevant experience related to social impact and gender risk assessments, partners mapping and engagement strategies, free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC), Indigenous peoples, resettlement, grievance mechanism and providing advice to private sector clients on social impact and mitigation measures.
  • Languages: Oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish required; knowledge of Portuguese and/or French desirable.

Additional Skills:

  • Proven track record in analyzing environmental and social aspects of an operation, identifying critical issues and building best practices into the core design, execution and monitoring of complex and diverse projects with a wide range of clients of different sizes and industries; 
  • Extensive experience reviewing socio-economic surveys, Social Impact Assessments for Projects, stakeholder engagement plans, as well as Resettlement Action Plans, and Indigenous Peoples Development Plans;
  • Proven track record monitoring and supervising the implementation of Resettlement Plans and mitigating measures for social impacts;
  • Experience assessing contextual risks, human rights issues, as well as evaluating mitigation strategies for projects;
  • Experience assessing and mitigating impacts related to gender issues, health impacts, as well as cultural heritage;
  • Experience with conflict resolution as related to complex projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience with IFC performance standards and IDB Invest’s Environmental and Social Sustainability Policy is highly desirable;
  • Proven track record in implementing environmental and social corporate procedures and programs and managing environmental or social systems;
  • Ability to work independently or with limited oversight in the review of moderate to highly complex social issues related to projects;
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of best practices related to environmental and social aspects in working with private sector firms across industry sectors (including infrastructure, agribusiness, tourism and/or manufacturing) to identify environmental and social risk and issues and develop mitigation measures to ensure compliance with good international industry practice;
  • Substantial technical knowledge of the development of environmental and social safeguards as well as deep specialization in one or two critical business sectors highlighted above;
  • Clear understanding of the role and mandate of multilateral institutions and how these institutions support and complement host government efforts to engage with the private marketplace to develop their national private sectors. Previous transaction experience with multilateral development banks and/or development finance institutions is desirable;
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to synthesize information clearly for a variety of internal and external shareholders audiences;
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to effectively work with project teams and clients;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Knowledge and experience in Latin America and the Caribbean;
  • Ability to travel to Latin America and Caribbean countries;
  • Unquestionable integrity and highest ethical standards.

  • Location: IDB Invest Headquarters in Washington, D.C. or another IDB Invest office in Latin America, depending on business needs.
