IDB Invest is an international financial institution and the private sector arm of the IDB Group that aims to solve development needs in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our mission is to support sustainable enterprises and projects that achieve financial results while maximizing regional social and environmental development. IDB Invest operates in 26 countries grouped into four regions and three industries (Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Intermediaries, and Corporates).
IDB Invest's shareholders recently approved a $3.5 billion capitalization to support a transformative business model, "Originate to Share," to attract greater private investment that drives development and climate impact in Latin America and the Caribbean. This will enable IDB Invest to nearly double its annual regional investments from approximately $8 billion to $19 billion.
IDB Invest has reorganized its structure to implement this new business model, creating the Industries and Cross-Cutting Themes Department. This department manages the business and clients from an industry perspective.
About this position
We seek a dynamic and experienced Executive to join as Chief Industries Officer.
The candidate should be an experienced banker with significant expertise in industries (infrastructure and energy, financial institutions, and corporate businesses), a proven track record of successful capital allocation and investments, credit decisions, and strong relationships with relevant private sector companies operating in the region.
As Chief Industries Officer, you will be responsible for achieving the industries' P&L, RAROC, and impact targets.
The Chief Industries Officer will report directly to the CEO of IDB Invest, be a member of the Senior Management Team, and oversee a team of six leaders: three Industry Managing Directors (Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions and Corporates), two cross-cutting thematic Managing Directors (Climate and Environment, and Gender and Social Inclusion), and the Portfolio Managing Director, guiding them in delivering the IDB Invest mandate.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop the IDB Invest business plan with the senior management team and ensure its alignment with IDB Group priorities.
- Manage relationships and business development with private sector clients and entities.
- Provide guidance and oversight to the six Managing Directors, supporting their strategic, tactical, and operational responsibilities.
- Oversee and is responsible for the business performance from an industry perspective with the Delivery Units (organized teams by industries and regions responsible for originating, structuring, and supervising transactions).
- Define industry priorities and roadmaps, establish upstream work, and provide advisory services to clients.
- Supervise and manage the performance of the portfolio.
- Identify, promote, and execute synergies with IDB and IDB Lab.
- Manage resources for the Industries Department, including operational, human, capital, and budgetary resources.
Requirements
- At least 15 years of relevant experience as a banker with a proven business track record. Expert in industries (infrastructure and energy, financial institutions, and corporations). Strong market and private sector company relationships (C-level) in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or another relevant field.
- Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank’s official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
- There are no citizenship requirements.
- Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
