Background of this search:

 

Established in 1959, the Inter-American Development Bank (“IDB” or “Bank”) is the main source of financing for economic, social, and institutional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. It provides loans, grants, guarantees, policy advice, and technical assistance to the public and private sectors of its borrowing countries. To align the work of the Bank operations with the new sustainable development goals, the Department of Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CSD) was created on May 1st, 2016. As part of this Department, the Housing and Urban Development (CSD/HUD) Division was created. The Division works with cities in the areas of Urban Development and Planning, Housing, and Heritage-related projects.


The team:

 

CSD/HUD is designed to work under a multisector approach, with the different operating divisions of the Bank, to promote a transversal and integral model for urban development and planning. CSD/HUD manages both technical assistance and loan operations instruments to provide support to clients across the Region. To strengthen the back-office operational support to the CSD/HUD team, the Division is in the process of contracting under a Defined Term Contractual mode, a Project Assistant to support the operations and the necessary quality control in the Division.

 
What you’ll do:
 

Provide operational support to CSD/HUD specialist in the preparation, processing, monitoring, and execution of the Bank’s operational programs (loans, technical cooperations, and economic and sector work products).

  • Participate in the drafting and proofreading of operational documents, ensuring their compliance with internal policies and procedures. This activity includes the preparation of graphics, cost tables, and matrices, among other Bank standard operational documents.
  • Conduct technical analyses or research in support of HUD’s operational activities.
  • Guide professional and support staff in HQ and Country Offices on the preparation, scheduling, and processing of operational documents throughout IDB’s project cycle to obtain approval.
  • Produce internal documentation required for operations processing, including memos and other communications.
  • Perform administrative functions in the preparation and development of the activities and tasks of the operational team and the Division, such as processing mission travel documentation, replying to project/program-related inquiries, maintaining chronological and operation/country files, and forwarding official documents to a central file.
  • Provide support in the request of individual and firm contracts by gathering, organizing, and processing documentation for the contracting of contractuals (using databases such us SNOW).
  • Provide support in the organization of the Division events, including coordinating and follow-up of all logistics activities and administrative transactions related to the event.
  • Use IDB tools and systems (CONVERGENCE, SISCOR, EzShare, etc.) to monitor CSD/HUD’s loan and TC pipeline and portfolio. Also, collect operational data and produce documents and reports, as needed.
  • Work closely with the CSD/HUD’s Front Office to assist in administrative requirements related to operations, as needed.


 

What you’ll need:


Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.

Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field.
Experience: 2 years of relevant work experience. Having worked at the IDB is a plus.
Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish.
 
Core and Technical Competencies:

Projects and operations management. Advanced computer skills in MS Office; (ii) knowledge of Bank’s systems and applications as well as internal operational policies and procedures; (iii) ability to provide clear, concise, and timely information; (iv) ability to work independently, with initiative and responsibility; and (v) excellent communication skills, teamwork, and interaction with different internal and external units and organizations. 

 

Opportunity Summary: 


Type of contract: Full time Consultant, CNS.
Length of contract: 6 months.(The contract can be renewed)
Location: Washington D.C.
Responsible Person: Lead Specialist (CSD/HUD).
