Background: We are currently looking for a Gender and Diversity Specialist to join our Gender and Diversity (GDI) Division. You will contribute to our operational and economic and sector work program in Latin America and the Caribbean particularly focusing on the supervision of our broad portfolio, both through direct investments and through the mainstreaming of gender and diversity in other Bank operations.

Our Social Sector (SCL) is a multidisciplinary team convinced that investing in people is the way to improve lives and overcome the development challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean. Jointly with the countries in the region, the Social Sector formulates public policy solutions to reduce poverty and improve the delivery of education, work, social protection, and health services. Our objective is to advance a more productive region, with equal opportunities for men and women, and greater inclusion of the most vulnerable groups.

 

The team: The Gender and Diversity (GDI) Division promotes gender equality, development with identity of Indigenous Peoples, and inclusion of persons with disabilities, African Descendants and LGBTQ+ persons, while using the talent and potential from individuals in these population groups to promote social and economic development in the region. It prepares and supervises direct and indirect investments, technical assistance, analytical work, and training. 

 

What you’ll do:

  • Lead or participate in the origination, conceptualization and preparation of operations with other team members and respective authorities.
  • Lead or assist in the supervision of the execution and the monitoring and evaluation of operations for which the IDB has approved financing.
  • Support other Bank teams in the mainstreaming of gender and diversity in operational, analytical, and strategic activities (including country strategies, country development challenges, and other), with a focus on the Panama portfolio.
  • Collaborate with and support the activities of the IDB Invest and IDB Lab, within the IDB Group.
  • Develop and apply innovative economic and sector analytic work to support the preparation of country, sector and regional strategies, loan operations and technical assistance programs in areas of gender and diversity.
  • Engage in policy dialogue with Government authorities and development partners based on your proven knowledge of the topics, development challenges of client countries, and IDB policies, strategies and guidelines.
  • Lead or participate in ground-breaking research on gender and diversity topics. 
  • Share and disseminate economic/sector knowledge and learning tools to improve the relevance of the IDB to borrowing countries and the region.
  • Build networks and actively engage with gender and diversity specialists in other multilateral and bilateral institutions, academic institutions, think-tanks, NGOs and professional bodies to promote cooperative research initiatives. 
     

What you’ll need:

 

  • Education: You hold a Ph.D. degree in social sciences, applied economics or related field.
  • Experience: You have at least 6 years of relevant and substantive development policy and operational experience.
  • Languages: You are proficient in Spanish and English. Your Portuguese or French knowledge would be a plus.

Requirements: You are citizen of one of the IDB’s 48-member countries and have no family members currently working at the IDB Group.
As an international specialist, you will be expected to rotate between country assignments every 3 to 5 years.
