About this position

The Social Protection and Health (SPH) Division is seeking a professional with experience in strategic communication, dissemination, positioning, and digital content creation to enhance and optimize communication related to SPH’s health sector work. To this end, the selected individual will develop and edit materials, content, and campaigns aimed at strengthening connections with both external and internal audiences. Additionally, the professional must have strong multitasking abilities and be highly organized to lead the processes of organizing seminars and other communication events for the Division.

The Social Protection and Health (SPH) Division prepares and oversees IDB operations in borrowing member countries in the areas of health (health capital investment strategies, health policy design and implementation, digital transformation of the health sector, strengthening service networks, quality and resilience of service delivery, health system financing and spending efficiency, organization, quality, and performance, etc.) and on topics related to population and nutrition.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the Division's communications to strategically position the work of the Division at the regional level and serve as an internal and external liaison on health sector issues in alignment with the Bank's communication strategies.
  • Organize the work plan for communicators under the Division, in line with the Division’s needs and priorities, and the availability of financial and human resources assigned to this area.
  • Update, execute, and monitor the Division's strategic communication plan to reflect the Division’s annual priorities.
  • Coordinate the technical work of other team members, provide feedback, and ensure it meets the highest quality standards and aligns with the Bank's guidelines.
  • Support the communication efforts of the Criteria Network, Salud Mesoamérica, the Economic and Health Dialogue Initiative (EHA), the Alliance for Primary Health Care, and the Pan-American Digital Health Pathway, in coordination with their respective communicators.
  • Coordinate work with officials from the Corporate Communications Division (KIC) and the Social Sector Management (SCL) for better execution and reporting of communication actions.
  • Coordinate the organization of in-person, hybrid, or virtual events, following corporate guidelines and IDB brand specifications.
  • Support the analysis and tracking of impact of SPH knowledge products.
  • Design and execute campaigns for communication milestones and monitor their implementation to achieve the Division's dissemination objectives.
  • Design and execute dissemination and impact strategies for blogs, articles, books, and graphic and audiovisual materials. Execute actions to strengthen the Division's internal communication.
  • Lead the editorial committee of the "Gente Saludable" blog, including editing, maintaining an editorial calendar, managing dissemination designs, coordinating with authors, and obtaining internal approval within the Bank, as well as reporting.
  • Identify collaboration opportunities to generate content for blogs both internally, with the staff of the Social Protection and Health Division and other areas of the Bank, and externally, with other institutions and professionals working on similar issues.
  • Coordinate the presence of specialists in the media, following corporate guidelines and IDB brand specifications. Coordinate work with the Bank's Press Officer for press releases, Op-Eds, and mentions.
  • Ensure quality control of all digital and printed dissemination materials. This includes, but is not limited to, blog posts, articles, books, presentations, graphic and audiovisual materials on social media, among others.
  • Update and monitor the impact of IDB web pages related to Health and other relevant topics as needed, in terms of audience analysis, goal achievement, and communication strategies.
  • Coordinate the graphic design, layout, editing, dissemination, and evaluation of knowledge products generated by the Division, following editorial guidelines and IDB brand specifications.
  • Provide support in developing priority presentations for the Division aimed at internal and external audiences, with prior authorization from the Division Chief.
  • Schedule and publish social media content for the Division Chief as the health leader at the Bank.
  • Assist in the management of translation, design, and publication editing, and support the management of these contracts for topics considered priorities for the Division.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Communication Sciences, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Languages:  Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

  • Citizenship:  You are citizen or have legal permit to work from your place of residency.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

  • Type of contract:  International Consultant Full-Time.
  • Length of contract: 12 months.
  • Work Location:  Washington D.C.
