Communications Consultant

Background of this search: The Communications Division (DCC) of the Knowledge, Innovation and Communications Sector (KIC) is seeking a motivated and passionate bilingual communicator and content marketing consultant to support the design, development, and execution of IDB Lab’s communication efforts.

The team’s mission: The Inter-American Development (IDB) Group is the leading source of development finance for Latin America and the Caribbean. It helps to improve lives by providing financial solutions and development know-how to public and private sector clients. The group comprises the IDB, which has worked with governments for 60 years; IDB Invest, which serves the private sector; and IDB Lab, which tests innovative ways to enable more inclusive growth.

The Communications Division (DCC) of the Knowledge, Innovation and Communications Sector (KIC) uses digital intelligence, data, and creativity to help position the IDB Group as the preferred partner for development in the region. DCC works with media, email, and social media channels to help give visibility to stories of impact in the region.

What you will do: The consultant will work under the supervision of the Communications Business Partner for IDB Lab in KIC/DCC to create, edit and plan content, ensuring consistency and accuracy of information, helping build and strengthen the IDB Lab’s corporate image. Additionally, the consultant will design and execute digital campaigns to promote IDB Lab’s knowledge products, corporate announcements, and events.

  • Curate, create, develop, and edit written content for print or digital applications including talking points, press releases, brochures, and infographics. Help to promote IDB Lab via editorial coverage.
  • Develop multimedia content (e.g., GIFs, short videos, and infographics) with third-party vendors as needed.
  • Act as program manager for communication processes and work streams.
  • Manage the relationship with third-party vendors (e.g., graphic designer, Ebfactory) for communication activities.
  • Manage workflow with designers and producers to develop artwork and multimedia content.
  • Provide editorial training to IDB Lab staff based on business needs.
  • Manage an editorial calendar, gathering input from across IDB Lab, defining messages, working with IDB Lab specialists to craft client stories, and informing specialists of upcoming deadlines.
  • Prepare and send newsletters.
  • Assist on coordinate media relations opportunities (interviews, press articles, etc.) with KIC.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Support the execution of social media and content marketing strategy including, but not limited to, the creation and editing of content in English and Spanish for social media corporate channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter) as needed.
  • Support the implementation of communication campaigns as needed.
  • Support the development of KPIs to monitor and measure communications efforts.
  • Provide support in guaranteeing that IDB Lab communications efforts are aligned with brand guidelines and attributes.
  • Work in close coordination with the team, to align practices and deliver messages with consistency and effectively, especially in all matters related to press and external communications.
  • Review and validate new IDB Lab’s websites proposals in coordination with ISU to ensure proper definition of responsibilities and the correct management of any risks associated with the maintenance of the website.
  • Develop communication materials such as talking points, toolkits, internal announcements, press releases, social media content, presentations, briefings, and events materials.

What you will need:

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.
  • Education: Master's Degree in journalism, marketing, communications, business, or other related field preferred and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in multilateral organizations or matrixed, international organizations in communications management.
  • Languages: Perfect command of English and Spanish (Portuguese proficiency is also desirable).

Core and Technical Competencies:

  • Excellent writing and editing.
  • Online community management experience and knowledge about industry best practices.
  • Solid understanding of current industry standards and techniques for digital content creation required.
  • Good understanding of private sector and multilaterals in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Reporting, writing, editing, and translation skills.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively, and express ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong teamwork orientation and effective communication skills.
  • Breadth of awareness.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Social studio or similar scheduling and measurement tool
  • Graphic design is a plus.
