What you’ll need:

 

  • Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in natural resources, environmental economics, development planning or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience in the process of mainstreaming ocean in planning instruments and development of key institutional strategies and regulations. Additional knowledge of latest programs or initiatives related to the Ocean Governance, Blue Economy/Circular Economy will be a plus. Additionally, experience in project management in such fields, and at least three (3) years of experience working on adaptation and climate resilience issues on islands in the Caribbean Basin.
  • Languages: Fluent English (verbal/written) with excellent communication and presentation skills.

 

Key Skills:

 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English; proven ability to communicate complex concepts and prepare clear, concise and meaningful reports; ability to apply theory to the specific policy context to identify creative, practical approaches to overcome challenging situations; analytic capacity and ability to synthesize project outputs and relevant findings for the preparation of quality project reports; good team player, self-starter, with the ability to work under minimum supervision and maintain good relationships.
  • Experience in communicating and collaborating with management agencies, academic institutions, and local, national, and regional stakeholders in Barbados to achieve agreed collective outcomes.
  • Knowledge of development and environment issues and complexities as they relate to the Ocean Agenda of Barbados MPA.
  • Capacity to interact effectively with a wide range of people at different levels including donors, the private sector, NGOs, and government officials.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Barbados or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Barbados.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
