2021 IDB Remote Winter Internship Program | Social Protection and Health Division SCL/SPH

 


 


 

Background of this search:

  

The Social Protection and Health Division of the Social Sector is looking for an active graduate student (Master or PhD) or recent graduate (graduate level program) with background in health policy and/or health financing to be hired as a Remote Winter Intern under Products and External Services Consultant (PEC) modality.

   

  

The team’s mission:

   

The Social Sector (SCL) has a multidisciplinary team convinced that investing in people is the way to improve lives and overcome the challenges of development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Together with the countries of the region, the Social Sector builds public policy solutions to reduce poverty and to improve the education, work, social protection, and health services that citizens receive. The Sector's work aims to promote a more productive region with equal opportunities for men and women and with greater inclusion of the most vulnerable populations.

       

The Social Protection and Health Division (SPH) is tasked with preparing and supervising IDB operations in the borrowing member countries in the areas of social protection (safety nets and transfers and social inclusion services that include: early child development , youth programs, care services, and others), health (investment strategies for health capital, strengthening health networks, financing the health system, organization and performance, etc.) and nutrition.

  

Criteria is a knowledge network of the SPH’s Division that facilitates technical assistance and the generation and dissemination of knowledge to countries to support informed decision making on what to finance with public health resources and at what price.

 

  

What you will do:

  • Support the preparation of three policy briefs for the Criteria Network.
  • Support the preparation of one blog for the Criteria Network.
  • Review literature and provide research assistance to support activities of the Criteria Network.
  • Support the preparation of the English version of the massive onlince course “What to finance in health and at what price”, which has been recently launched by SCL/SPH.

 

Deliverables and Payments timeline:

  • Deliverable 1: Policy brief on the experience of El Salvador with medicine price regulation, based on the webinar conducted by Alejandro Rivera for CRITERIA in 2019 (activities 1 and 3).
  • Deliverable 2: Policy brief on how to improve access to medicines without compromising innovation, based on the webinar conducted by Write, Bardey and Duran for CRITERIA in 2019 (activities 1 and 3).

  • Deliverable 3: Blog on health catastrophic funds, based on the webinar conducted by Eduardo Paes for CRITERIA in 2018 (activity 2).

  • Deliverable 4: Report on the activities conducted for the MOOC (activity 4).

 

The payment schedule will be as following: 25% on January 30, 25% on February 15, 25% on February 28, and 25% on March 15, 2021.

 

  

What you will need: 

  • Education: Active graduate student (Master or PhD. program) or recent graduate from a graduate level program (maximum of 1 year after graduation date) in health policy and/or health financing in an accredited university.
  • Experience: Minimum two years of experience.
  • Languages: Be proficient in English and preferably with a working knowledge of one of the Bank’s additional official languages (e.g. Spanish, Portuguese, or French).
  • Soft Skills: Self-management, flexibility, dependability, relationship building, results-driven, with strong communication skills.
  • Technical skills: Good research and writing skills, ability to work well in teams, and proactivity.

 

Remote Internship under PEC modality Requirements:

 

To be part of our Remote Internship you will need to comply with all the following requirements:

  • Be a national of any IDB member country.
  • Be minimum 23 years of age as of the starting date of the remote winter internship.  
  • Be an active graduate student (Master or PhD. program) or recent graduate from a graduate level program (maximum of 1 year after graduation date) in accredited University.
  • For active graduate students, submit academic transcripts as an attachment to the application, demonstrating a minimum of 50% of coursework completion and issued within the last 3 months.
  • For recent graduates, submit a valid certificate with graduation date not older than January 16, 2019 as an attachment to the application.
  • Not be former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractors for the Corporation or the Bank or have previously provided services to the Corporation or the Bank through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.
  • Not have family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest.
  • Have access to Internet connection.

 

             

Candidates with more than 3 applications in the 2021 Remote Winter Internship Program for IDB, IDB Lab, and IDB Invest will be automatically disqualified.

The contractual remote intern is fully responsible for any expenses incurred for these purposes, such as but not limited to computer, phone lines and/or network connections. Also, the intern must be accessible to be contacted and respond within a reasonable time frame (1 day) by means of telephone and/or e-mail for matters related to this contract.
