Our paid internships in our office in Washington, D.C. provide opportunities to work with teams at the IDB, IDB Invest, and IDB Lab.  

You'll be working in a hybrid modality with our teams during this program. Our hybrid modality is a mix of in-person attendance at our offices and teleworking.

 Here’s everything you need to know to prepare your application. 



  • Citizenship: Being a citizen of any of our 48 member countries for internships with the IDB and IDB Lab's teams in Washington, D.C. Positions at IDB Invest do not have citizenship restrictions. 

  • Active Student: Being an active undergraduate student (at least in the second year of college) or graduate-level student (minimum of 50% of coursework completed). 

  • Age: Be between 21 and 27 years of age for undergraduate students or up to 33 years old for graduates (as of the starting date of the internship.) 

  • Availability: To work full-time (40 hours per week) within predefined and fixed dates (January 16th to March 15th,2024). 

  • Consanguinity: Applicants cannot have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouses) working at the IDB, IDB Lab or IDB Invest. 

  • First job at the IDB Group: This should be your first job at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.  


Make sure you upload the following documents in time when you submit your application: 


  • Resume 

  • Cover letter 

  • University letter certifying your active student status. 

  • Official Academic Transcripts issued by the academic institution. Must include a list of all the courses taken and gradesPlease do not send copies of other types of certificates and courses (e.g., digital marketing certificate). 


Important considerations for a successful application: 


  • Select up to three (3) internship options in the application. 

  • Applications without the requested documentation will be disqualified.  

  • Save each file in a PDF format with your name and the name of the document (e.g., resume, diploma, academic transcripts, etc.)  

  • Please DO NOT send copies of your degree certificates or other courses. 

  • You must be able to work 40 hours weekly during the predetermined and fixed dates: January 16th to March 15th, 2024. 

  • If you are an international student in the U.S., your work authorization is obtained through the Curricular Practical Training (CPT). Consult your school advisor before applying.
